The Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology was established in March 2017 and it strives to provide the professional clinical service as well as professional education in both Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Department provides clinical services by evaluating and treating people who have hearing and communication disorders. Our audiology unit identifies and measures hearing impairments and prescribes hearing aids to the persons diagnosed with hearing disorders. Our speech-language pathologists diagnose and treat individuals with speech, language, voice, literacy & fluency disorders.

The major objectives of the Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (ASLP) are to impart professional training, render clinical services, conduct research and educate the public on issues related to Speech, Language and Hearing Disorders.

Clinical Services: The department is routinely involved in evaluation, diagnosis, counseling and management of persons with various types of communication disorders. The clinical services are provided under two units Audiology and Speech Language Pathology

Audiology Services: The audiology unit provides services to individuals from their birth to the elderly days the services include
• Hearing Evaluation
• Hearing Aid Trail
• Hearing Aid Programming
• Auditory Verbal Therapy
• Tinnitus Retraining Therapy

The detailed assessment of hearing includes behavioral tests such as Pure Tone Audiometry, Speech Audiometry, Behavioral Observation Audiometry (BOA), and Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA). The objective assessment procedure includes Immittance evaluation, measurement of Oto Acoustic Emissions (OAE), measurement of Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP) and Auditory Steady State Responses (ASSR).
Speech Language Pathology Services: Our unit provides assessment, management, counseling and guidance services to individuals with communication disorders. The therapeutic services of the department includes
• Language Therapy – For persons with Hearing Impairment, Specific Language Impairment, Intellectual Disability, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Aphasia etc.
• Articulation therapy - For persons with Mis-articulation, Cleft Lip and Palate, Dysarthria etc.,
• Voice Therapy - For persons with voice problems.
• Fluency Therapy- For persons with Stuttering, Cluttering etc.
• Reading and writing remediation program - For persons with learning disability.
• Swallowing Therapy – For persons with Dysphagia
• Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC Training) – Persons with Limited Verbal Modality


Out- Reach Services:

The focus of the outreach services of the department involves creating awareness, prevention, early identification and management of individuals with communication disorders. The services involve public education /awareness programs, conducting camps for identification of communication disorders, new born communication screening program etc.,


Academic Activities:

Short term Training Programs: The short-term training programs are conducted for the different rehabilitation professionals who work as a team in the management of individuals with communication disorders. Orientation, guidance and demonstrations are provided to different groups of professionals such as, post graduate ENT students from medical colleges, PHC medical officers, and special educators, teachers of special and regular schools, parents/caretakers of the differently abled, nurses and grass gross root health workers

Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology proposes
to conduct the following long-term courses.

• Diploma in Hearing, Language and Speech (DHLS)
• Bachelor of Audiology and Speech language pathology (BASLP)
